We Earthlings: Think Before You Snack

Think before you snack. When you grab food at the convenience store or fast-food restaurant, you’ll probably get plastic packaging that goes right into the garbage. Food packaging and containers account for 31.14% of plastic pollution, according to the Plastic BAN (Better Alternatives Now) List, a combined research effort of 5 Gyres, Clean Production Action, Surfrider Foundation, and Upstream.

But it’s not that hard to plan ahead and pack an apple or a handful of nuts secured in a reusable container. With a little more effort, you can make batches of your favorite snack — such as easy high-protein cacao energy balls, granola bars, or even vegan chocolate chip cookies. Just split them into handy individual to-go containers for easy snacking without the plastic waste.
